The David Lisle Story

Our journey so far

40 Years On

While David Lisle’s work now spans a variety of interiors, the company’s ethos remains the same – “the kitchen is the heart of the home”. Today, Becky Lisle leads the design process – carrying forward the values instilled by David and ensuring every project reflects the artistry that has defined the brand for over four decades.

2020 – A Second Generation

David’s daughter Becky joined the business as a designer-cabinetmaker, bringing a fresh perspective and creative energy to complement David’s decades of experience. Starting with smaller projects, as her knowledge and skillset developed over the years, she now manages the business, continuing the family legacy of creating exceptional interiors.

2000s – Growth in Bespoke Interiors

During this time, the business expanded its portfolio beyond kitchens to include bespoke bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms, and boot rooms. Each project was created to order, combining traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful design to meet the unique needs of every client.

1999 - A New Home

With the business continuing to grow, David hired a small number of craftsmen and purchased the Old Chapel on Beech Lane, Macclesfield. Built in 1830, the Chapel became both a showroom and a workshop. Its original stained-glass windows still illuminate the space, creating a unique setting for clients to see designs come to life while preserving the building’s historic character.

Mid–1980s - First Commissions

The workshop windows opened directly onto the canal path, where people walking by could see David at work. These passers-by soon became his first customers, commissioning pieces and asking for bespoke designs. Before long, his reputation grew, and David began designing kitchens tailored to individual clients.

1984 - The Beginning

After completing his degree in Furniture Design, David Lisle set up a tiny workshop in the Adelphi Mill, Bollington. Armed with just an old circular saw, a lathe, and a few pieces of oak and ash, he began designing and making coffee tables, chairs, clocks, and mirrors.
