After many years of enjoyment in their first David Lisle kitchen, when our clients started building their forever home, they reached out to us. The property was designed as a barn house, with high ceilings and a long, narrow, open layout. The large main living area was to house the kitchen, dining and lounge. The build was in the early planning stages, giving the opportunity to achieve the best use of the space before any interior structures were in place.
The large patio doors at the rear of the room let in an abundance of natural light. Overlooking the back garden, this was the obvious placement for the kitchen. In keeping with the architecture, the client opted for a contemporary cabinetry build with natural, Nordic-inspired materials, including white-oiled maple, light, earthy-green paintwork and black satin stone tops.
To keep the main living area from view of the front door, we designed an entrance screen to serve as both a privacy screen and interior porch. With silver birch frosted glass and reeded panelling, it is a striking feature as you step into the property. The dining table & lounge sit cosily behind, out of direct view.
The whole space comes together to feel peaceful and unostentatious. Form and function quietly yet confidently balance, achieving an airy, open-plan living environment, with an intimate, relaxed ambiance.
